The scar is a reminder of a tragic incident when she was just five – Tina Fey’s face was slashed by a stranger when she was in the front yard of her home.

“It was in, like, the front yard of her house, and some body just came up, and she just thought somebody marked her with a pen”

Her husbent Jeff Richmond tells the publication of the event at age 5 that resulted in Fey’s facial scar :

“That scar was fascinating to me. This is somebody who, no matter what it was, has gone through something. And I think it really informs the way she thinks about her life.”

Fey has avoided discussing it: “It’s impossible to talk about it without somehow seemingly exploiting it.”

“It’s impossible to talk about it without somehow seemingly exploiting it and glorifying it,” Fey, 38, told Vanity Fair.
